The Hills Are Alive . . .in Austria!

We decided to drive down to the top of Austria. We visited some nice places in Germany along the way and also Innsbruck and Salzburg in Austria.

We took what's called the "Romantic Road" in Austria. This is the first town we stopped in (Rothenburg ob der Tauber). We climbed the town tower to check out the view.

View along the Romantic Road.

Just driving along . . .

This is the famous castle that is replicated in Disney World - Neuschwanstein Castle (here I thought it was the real thing :)). But Neuschwanstein Castle was the original inspiration for Walt Disney in his concept for the castle in the movie Cinderella (got this fun fact from wikipedia).

The castle. Wes, contimplating life (jk. just checking out the castle)
We stopped in Innsbruck to eat and sleep-a popular skiing resort town.

It would be nice to live in a city with such beautiful mountains in the background.

A scenic drive.

Look at the reflection of the mountains on the lake.

Zell am See (another popular skiing resort town)
(I am randomly putting in pictures of each of us, so you know that we were actually in Austria-more to come.)(Random picture--that's me)

We then drove to Salzburg and stayed a couple of nights. This is home to Mozart and where The Sound of Music took place! (Kristin, you would have loved it!) Being there, really got me singing, or shall I say, belting out Sound of Music songs (like do-re-me and the sound of music and favorite things--Wes never joined in . . .shame.)

Mozart's house (nobody was home, must have been out running errands)
More of Salzburg.
Salzburg.

We took another drive through the mountains.

This picture says, "hey, we were there man"

On the way back, we stopped at Bamberg in Germany, a spendidly preserved old town whose history goes back to AD 902 (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

That's it, folks!
